10 Best Sites to Find Freelance and Remote Work

In the freelance world today, several websites offer a marketplace for clients to get freelancers and remote workers. However, with so many options, it can be challenging to choose the right platform.

In no particular order, let’s explore 10 places online to get freelance and remote jobs.

1. Freelancer

Freelancer probably has the most significant number of opportunities available. It is open to everyone and has no upfront costs when creating an account.

You can search and apply to local and remote jobs in dozens of fields, such as content writing, social media marketing, sales, software development, and more.

Things to note:

✔️ There’s a 10% fee on fixed-price projects.

✔️ In some cases, $5, depending on which value is more

✔️ There’s a flat fee of 10% for hourly projects

✔️ The service fee is 20

2. Upwork

Upwork is a favorite for us, and it is one of the most prominent freelance marketplaces on the web. It is very versatile, and freelancers can get any and every conceivable job within a wide range of industries.

Once a client has posted a project, freelancers can apply for the position, allowing employers to find the best fit for the job. There are a lot of short- and long-term contracts on Upwork, and it’s easy for freelancers and employers to chat, exchange documents and images, and schedule meetings.

Creating a profile on Upwork is free. After that, you set yourself up for success by populating your profile with your rates, work samples, resume, case studies, and personal statement. Note that Upwork needs to approve your profile to join the platform before you can start applying for projects.

3. Craiglist

Craigslist currently serves 700 cities in over 70 countries. It remains one of the most visited sites in the U.S. It is very versatile and renowned for listing jobs and gigs. It has several categories, including but not limited to finance, marketing, general labor, domestic work, IT, education, writing and editing, and more.

You can undoubtedly find amazing clients and opportunities on Craigslist, but be wary of fraudulent listings while searching. You can search for work outside of your immediate area by visiting other cities’ Craigslist pages. You may be able to find a job outside your local area if the employer is willing to work with remote candidates.

It has a reputation for offering low-cost gigs, thus making it suitable for freelancers looking to build their portfolios. It has millions of gigs, and that means employers can find every kind of freelancer on the site.

Whatever it is you are going for: long project, small job, or anything in between, you would definitely be able to find it on Fiverr and at all sorts of budgets.

It’s free to join the site and list opportunities on Fiverr.

Its free listings also mean there are plenty of low-cost options here too. With its low barrier to entry, you may have to sift through many unsuitable projects before you find the right fit.

#6 Guru

Guru is yet another marketplace for finding jobs and projects. They have a straightforward hiring process, making it easy for the clients to hire freelancers. It is comparatively a more miniature marketplace.

Since we don’t see many freelancers as compared to Upwork / freelancers. It makes it less price competitive. Guru connects companies with quality freelancers. Its unique advantage is that it specifically caters to experienced professionals rather than entry-level job seekers.

#7 99Designs

99designs concentrates on design. Great for freelancers in any of the creative fields. You can offer logos, branding, book covers, or websites. You can join for free and compete in contests to bid for work. There are more than ninety design categories on the site, so you’ll be spoilt for choice.

Extra fees 99designs charges fees when you complete a job, and there are extra fees when designers start working with new clients.

It is similar to other general freelance sites. The client provides a brief of the design, and designers submit their entries.

Things to note:

✔️ Client contests and 1:1 work available

✔️ An easy-to-use platform for submitting designs

✔️ Lower fees for higher-quality designers

✔️ Payment only available through PayPal or Payoneer

#8 Toptal

Toptal is designed to discover the world’s best freelance talent as it only lists world-class freelancers. It has a reputation for finding top skills for world-class companies like Microsoft, Bridgestone, and Salesforce.

Toptal uses a rigorous 5 step screening process to ensure that only the best candidates are available. Language and personality reviews, skills tests, live screening, and test projects are used to find world-class talent. Only after the screening do they open up projects to the freelancer; it helps to cut off those low-quality, low-price proposals.

✔️ Toptal only works with developers, designers, finance experts, and product and project managers.

#9 PeoplePerHour

People per Hour offers all-around freelancers and an outsourcing marketplace. It has 15 categories to choose from. They include Web Development, Virtual Assistance, marketing, IT, video, design, SEO, social media, writing, translation, administration, and Mobile Development.

With people per Hour, Freelancers can list what they offer and add perks similar to gigs on Fiverr.

While PeoplePerHour doesn’t vet freelancers with skill tests or other traditional means, the platform does use a scoring algorithm (CERT) to rate sellers.

#10 Remotive

Remotive is where top talents go to easily access active and fully remote job opportunities from vetted tech companies.

Remove a flexible freelancing website having all sorts of freelance jobs. Categories like software, customer support, designing, marketing, sales, and product allow freelancers to keep busy for quite a long time.

Similar to Toptal, Remotiv has helped companies such as Zapier, Sticker Mule, Airtable, and Salesforce find quality hires. Remotive is where top talents go to easily access active and fully remote job opportunities from vetted tech companies.
